| Review of Julie Land:
I remember back when I was in junior high school, there was a movement called the grrl movement. Yes, it was spelled like that. I know some of you might shake your head in shame in rememberance of that mess. Every alternative girl was a riot grrl. In fact, I found myself attracted to them- at the time. Now, I think it is just a little silly. Sure, the ideas behind the movement are very sound and something to believe in. My biggest issue is just the spelling. It makes me want to punch a wall. That, and all the hangers on that jumped into it. So when I saw the spelling here, on Juliland, it made me a little agitated. Then I said, settle down, theres some porn to come, its just a word anyway.
Signing on to Juliland, you will see that it is set up in the same way that softcore sites are set with the magazine like covers, content spread throughout, and a general good design. The thumbnails for everything are pretty small, so while everything looks great on an artistic level, the actual site design suffers a little bit from it. The site is split into different areas, but for the most part, its pictures and videos still. There are a few cool extra features as well, and there are some well known women here in the "grrls" section, such as Aria Giovanni and Jayna Oso.
The pictures on Juliland are very artistic. I mentioned softcore a bit earlier- but this is more like harder porn, still solo, but more spreading and pussy work. My point is, it is more artistic hardcore than softcore or even artistic softcore. The pictures are done with very bright and vivid photography. They pictures have an extremely "produced" feel to them. You can almost tell that they have been worked over. With that said, some people are really into this type of stuff. So if you are one of them, this is for you.
The pictures themselves are pretty good as far as the quality of them. Again, you really need to be into this style of picture to truly enjoy the work. I will be up front and say that this really bores me, so I can't say I am a huge fan. But for those of you who are, the stuff looks good. Just not my type. The pics are 800x620, and they look pretty good. Maybe not the highest resolution in the world, but it gets the job done. If you like a particular set, there are zip downloads for every set on the site, so you can get it easily and in one shot.
Speaking of zip downloads- the videos are only available as zip downloads. What is this, 1990 again? Most of us have broadband connections that can handle any size videos. At the same time, whatever, it's just one easy extra step. The one thing I will say about Juliland is that is has a much more expansive video section than virtually any likeminded site I've seen. That is a big plus for me. I like it when there are a lot of photos and videos. The videos are decent quicktime movies. Quicktime, what? I mean, who does movies in quicktime anymore? There is also an ipod format- which is the trendy thing to do nowadays it seems. You can also stream them if you want to. Overall, a nice complimentary video section here.
The girls on Juliland are, well, I would say the whole entire site reminds me of a more hardcore Type o Negative/ Cradle of Filth album cover/video shoot. Throw in some extreme artiness, and you have the site here. There is definitely an audience for this type of content, and a pretty big one at that. I have said before it is not my thing, but if it is your thing, you will enjoy it tremendously.
The content level on Juliland is actually pretty high as well. There are around 200 picture sets and spiced up with close to 100 video sets. It looks like the site is updated multiple times weekly as well, which is always a plus!
Conclusion
This is a good site if you are into this style of photography/video. If you aren't- nothing here will change your mind. But for those fans of this, it will be a great site for you to check out.
