What was old is new again. That is the entire idea of retro. Every year, something retro becomes cool again. It is kind of a phase that won't go away. The funny thing is, when things that are cool now become uncool, we laugh at them and say "boy is that dumb!" And a few years later, it will be cool again. So I guess the point is, there is always a market for retro merchandise.
In the porn field, we don't see a lot of retro. The theme hasn't really caught on all that much. Well, one website is going to try to change all that. Retro Porn Archive shows us several retro porn videos to try to recapture the magic.
This is your fathers porn! As they say on their front page, did you know your grandparents were into making smut as well? The site starts off with a members page that is 99% ads for other sites designed by these folks. You do, however, have the choice to go into pictures or movies for this actual site. This is just done as a text link, however. Throughout the rest of the site, the design is spotty. They really don't do much well with the site look. The thumbnails for the videos just go three across the screen, with about five per page. It's not that difficult to view once you understand exactly what they are doing here; that is what takes a little time.
The retro theme here is more than what I would call retro. I figure retro to be ten, twenty years ago. Retro here can go back much further with black and white pictures that honestly look like they could be taken from my grandfathers time. These are also the real deal, it looks like. It's not like they just made current stuff black and white, this is really just long lost porno!
The videos here are a mixed bag. I say that because, well, you simply can't expect anything with this theme to look good. Just like you can't compare a movie from 2007 to a movie from 1943, this pretty much has to be used in a different scale. You simply cannot expect good quality here. I don't really want to rate down because of this, but it is pretty inevitable. Even though these AVIs were never made to be good, and it fits in with the theme, the quality is still not there.
The pictures form a more traditional look at porn. Instead of being just downright bad in quality, they simply look aged. The only thing with the pictures that was a bit different than we are used to is that there are no sets here. They are just individual pictures here. Kind of like finding an old photo box in the attic. These look pretty decent, but again, these are very retro, old pictures.
So what would make you want this site? Well, if you are older, you might want to genuinely experience this site. It really is like the old days of porn! The site is constantly updated and has a ton of content. The word archive fits best here because 1) it'd older stuff and 2) theres a ton of it! So you may just want to take a time capsule back in time and enjoy Retro Porn Archive!
The Bottom Line
Kind of a cool novelty, I could see this being a cool bonus on a strong site. However, I'm not sure how much leg it has on its own. There is nothing really wrong with the site, I just can't picture many people forking over the money for it. Which is kind of a shame, because it is well maintained.
